MakeMKV is a best combination of both freeware and shareware. Its ability of ripping DVD discs is outstanding and it always surprises me with its features of Blu-ray decryption. But the Blu-ray processing feature is only free for 30 days, after 30-day trial, you may have to pay USD $50 to purchase a registration key to continue using its function of converting and streaming Blu-ray discs. 9. DVD Shrink (Win)
DVD Shrink is a piece of freeware for Windows users, capable of decrypting, ripping, and compressing altogether. With the built-in decryption algorithms, you can always easily copy commercial DVD titles with seconds. Plus, this app enables you to burn the output files to DVD disc. While if you have needs to convert the output DVD files to other videos for portable devices, you may also need a third-party video converter. 10. DVDFab HD Decrypter (Win/OS X)
DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simplified version of DVDFab DVD Copy and DVDFab Blu-ray Copy which can copy some old DVDs and Blu-rays to blank disc or to the hard drive on your computer, but only in “Full Disc” or “Main Movie” mode. Work as a free DVD Decrypter, DVDFab HD Decrypter enables you to either copy the full disc or just copy the main movie. However, if you want to compress a DVD9 into a DVD5, it can’t be done using this free product. Plus, it’s a pity that this powerful DVD ripper doesn’t support video encoding, so you may have to use a third party video converter.
