Solved- Can’t play AVI files on Samsung Smart Hub TV through Plex

Spread the love

Many people encounter problems ‘Plex not detecting AVI files’ like these:

Q: “I finally sorted out all my media on the weekend and I’m running Plex to be able to watch my stuff on my Samsung TV using smart hub. And I really have no idea in terms of the tech side of running media servers, and can only assume I have something wrong in the settings.

MP4 and MKV files work perfectly, but avi will not play. I have no idea if it’s at the media server end or at the TV where the issue is occuring however. I can play the file within Plex on my PC without trouble, but when you look at those files on the TV they are showing as 0MB and will not play. I installed PS3 media server and all works fine from there on the TV with all formats working, but I don’t like the UI for it, so would prefer to get it working with Plex.”

Plex announced that it supports wide range of media formats. If your device supports it, Plex will stream it directly. If it doesn’t, Plex will transcode it to an acceptable format for your Samsung Smart Hub TV. However, many users still can not add AVI files to Plex Media Server for smoothly playback. Basically, Plex can recognize AVI videos, well, only in the condition of compressing with the supported codec like H.264. Namely, Plex has nothing to do with those AVI files with the unmatched codec. So for the question up lines, it may be due to the codec problem.
