“I have built an HTPC for and the time has come where I wanted to start ripping my entire DVD collection of almost 700 DVD’s to HTPC (I have enough 2tb HD storage). I want to rip them to true 1080p AVI so I can watch on HTPC via Windows Media Center. Is there any app for that?”
As many users will take Handbrake as the most popular app at the very first. But as for DVD, its best output is 480p. That’s suitable for watching on tablets but not so good for bigger screen HTPC via Windows Media Center. For HTPC owners, space should not be an issue. In this case, 1080p video could meet our needs better.
So what to do to backup a 1080p version copy of the physical DVDs for watching on HTPC using Windows Media Center? How to copy a commercial protected DVD for personal use?
